"Elevate Your Black Friday: 'Passport to Black Music' Unveils a Musical Journey Like No Other

[Long Beach] - Black Everywhere, in collaboration with the City of Long Beach, is thrilled to announce "Passport to Black Music," a captivating event that celebrates the healing power of Black music. This transformative experience will take place on “Black Friday”, November 24th, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM.


"Passport to Black Music" invites attendees to explore the diverse rhythms of the African diaspora while connecting with the vibrant culture of Long Beach. By walking or pedaling between Downtown businesses, participants can collect "passport stamps" while enjoying live music that celebrates the rich history and transformative power of Black creative expression.


Confirmed participating businesses that will contribute to this cultural celebration include:

  • Black Everywhere - Long Beach

  • Village Treasures

  • Waters Edge Winery - Long Beach

  • Pedal Movement (offering free bike safety checks)

  • Salon Shampu

  • Daily Dose


Our stellar lineup of performers includes:

  • Amadou Fall, a master kora player and an accompanying djembe drummer

  • JaszyLady, a captivating jazz and R&B soloist

  • Kiva Siana (fka Sheila Starr), an intoxicating sensual movement artist and performer at Harvelle's in Long Beach, will be leading a workshop on a timeline of black dance history

  • Queen Yaa of Soul Cypher - Soul Cypher is a beloved creative collective and hospitality-driven marketing agency promoting local artists

  • Dawn Koyote, a versatile genrefluid artist, curator, educator, and entrepreneur from Long Beach


About the Participating Businesses:

Waters Edge Winery, known as Long Beach's first winery, offers a wide range of quality wines, while Village Treasures is an African gift shop/boutique and gallery featuring world imports. Pedal Movement is committed to active transportation programs for communities of all sizes. Salon Shampu specializes in traditional and trendy hairstyles for the sophisticated woman, and Daily Dose is a neighborhood cafe offering a variety of healthy sips, eats, and quick bites.


The "Passport to Black Music" event is a gift to the community and is open and free to the public. We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the healing power of Black music. Advance registration is recommended at blackeverywhere.com/music.


"Passport to Black Music" is a part of the PD 6 + PD 30 project, demonstrating the City of Long Beach's commitment to comprehensive and inclusive planning. Extensive community outreach and public participation will guide this inclusive planning process, offering various online and in-person opportunities for community members and stakeholders to engage. Attendees will have the valuable opportunity to provide planning feedback during the event.
